Is online learning the way to go?

Educators love and loathe different aspects of online learning – but the results speak for themselves. The latest example:

In one Chicago school district, 50 middle school students took an online math class in the summer of 2010. The online course essentially crammed a year’s worth (two full semesters) of math into six weeks.

Result: Those 50 students did roughly as well as other students in their next math course the following fall semester!

Yet few Illinois schools are offering online learning. In another Chicago district, only two of 13,000 students take Internet classes.

With so many schools facing budget cuts, is more online learning for high schoolers and middle schoolers a win-win? Share your opinion below.
